Frequently asked questions
  • The Otea app pairs providers with guests. The guest is added to a waitlist of others, and notified when their turn is 5 minutes away.

The guest navigates to the store, and the staff verifies the guest with a confirmation number that the both receive after booking. During testing, no one is charged and you will also take a survey about your app experience.
  • It’s simple- there aren’t enough clean public restrooms, especially in areas like New York City. Maintaining a restroom is costly, and it’s too risky to allow unverified users into a storefront restroom for free. We’re empowering storefronts to add an extra revenue stream with no additional effort, and matching pedestrians with the infrastructure they need for a stress-free travel experience.
  • Our thorough reporting service allows either party to submit a report, which will be addressed with 24 hours. If there is more than one report for either a restroom or a guest, then the account will be flagged and suspended. All restrooms are inspected by staff prior to onboarding, and providers are legally obligated to provide restroom access upon arrival. If they fail to do so, you will get a refund for your booking amount to your account.
  • If a guest damages your property, or harassess your staff, you may submit a report and we will respond as soon as possible. We can ban your guest permanently, and assist with any repairs required.
  • The price will be left up to the hosts. The minimum price is $0.25, and the maximum is $10. We believe in capping the price to ensure affordability for all.

Credit card fees, currently 4% total, will be taken out of that price, with 96% left for the providers to keep.
  • The subject has been misconstrued. Government-sanctioned pay toilets have been banned by the governments themselves, which has recieved backlash from many groups the misguided activists hoped to serve. What Otea does is legal.
  • We pledge to donate 1% of profits, in perpetuity, to sanitation-related charities. Ultimately, our goal is to help everyone with sanitation needs, not just those who visit a large U.S. city.
  • Our name is inspired by お手て洗あらい, or "otearai", which means “restroom” in Japanese.
